The impact of investments in ports is better international connectivity, reduced logistics costs and increased economic competitiveness, which in turn attract foreign and domestic investment, create jobs and contribute to Malaysia`s well-being. Malaysia`s privileged geographical location, in the heart of Southeast Asia and close to major East-West trade routes, has also positioned it as an important maritime hub for freight transport – meaning Malaysia`s ports benefit other countries in the region by offering them international connectivity via ports such as Port Klang and Port of Tanjung Pelepas. Although the transshipment activity is not directly linked to Malaysia`s own imports and exports, it nevertheless generates considerable economic benefits in the form of jobs in ports and related support services, and especially in the form of increased maritime connectivity with the rest of the world through the hub function – which ultimately benefits Malaysian importers and exporters. . . .
